De Bruyne close to beating Ozil’s record

Kevin De Bruyne can underline his status as one of the most prolific creators in Premier League history by beating Mesut Ozil’s assist record if he provides a goal for Manchester City at AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.

The City playmaker set up both his side’s goals in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. That left him one away from 50 assists in the Premier League.

De Bruyne has reached 49 assists in just 122 matches and is set to hit a half-century quicker than any of the 36 players who have reached that total.

The fastest to 50 Premier League assists is Ozil, who took 141 appearances for Arsenal to do so. De Bruyne has 18 matches to provide his 50th assist and beat the German.
